History
Bathurst Panorama Chorus began as a group of about a dozen singers in April 1989 and was the first inland women's barbershop group to establish itself outside the major Australian cities. It became a chartered chorus of Sweet Adelines International in June 1991. The original Bathurst Panorama Chorus steering committee consisted of Helen Wyld, Jean Humphrey and Fay Baker.
The founding Directors of the chorus were David and Joan Russell. From 1989 to 1991 the Bathurst Panorama Chorus had a number of different Directors including Marie McGrath, Jennie Cieslak, Julia Romano and Helen Goninon. At the end of 1991 our present Director Tracey Cam led the chorus until 1998. Sharon Stanley became Director during 1998 and then Sharon and Tracey combined together to Co-Direct the chorus from 1999 to 2008. Currently, Bathurst Panorama Chorus performs under the direction of Tracey Cam.
During the past 20 years, over 110 women have been members of the chorus with the average size of the group around 30 - 35 members. Members have been drawn from around the Central West including Bathurst, Orange, Lithgow, Oberon, Cowra and Canowindra.
Since 1992, Bathurst Panorama Chorus has competed every two years in the Australian Regional contest of Sweet Adelines. The chorus has also been a regular competitor and prize winner in local Eisteddfods in Cowra, Orange and Bathurst. The chorus performs regularly at various events in Bathurst and the Central West.
